Bio

Greg Mahlman,  2^nd VP of the board and current mentor, is a Toledo Police Officer serving as junior high school resource officer.  Growing up in rural Ohio near Napoleon, he has two older brothers and three younger sisters.   

“Growing up in the country allowed me to experience and live a life unlike most of the youth I deal with.  I assisted my parents in taking care of various farm animals and maintaining a vegetables garden. I went to a small town elementary school and a high school with a graduating class of 100 students.  My loving mother and father always challenged me and my siblings to " change our family tree."   My father quit his education in the 8th grade in order to support his family.  My mother, who graduated from high school always told me and my siblings that we could be the first Mahlman's  to ever attend college. I decided to be different and obtained a college degree which led me to a career in law enforcement.   I love my job in the junior high school, because it gives me an opportunity to assist kids in changing their family tree."  

Mr. Mahlman, part of Mountain Mentors for 13 years,  believes “Mountain Mentors is a program like no other.  Mountain Mentors give kids the opportunity to be challenged physically, emotionally and spiritually beyond what they ever imagined. The kids succeed when in many situations the kids have only failed.  The hiking experience gives them a foundation to succeed in life and make significant changes in their lives.  Mountain Mentors operates through the generous donations of people who believe in our mission.”
